Frequently Asked Questions

1. How much study time is required before I take the test?

We recommend a minimum of 15 hours of study time either before or after the seminar.

2. Do I need all the books?

YES! You will definitely need to have access to all of the books in order to adequately prepare for the exam. If you wish to purchase the reference books from us, we recommend that you purchase them prior to the seminar. This will ensure that you will receive all reference books to begin studying and that valuable seminar time is not used to distribute books.

3. What is the difference between a Residential and a Building license in North Carolina?

The Residential license allows you to construct single- family houses or duplexes while the Building license allows you to construct any building. In North Carolina only, the Building exam is not as difficult to pass than the Residential; therefore the Building exam is the best one to take.

4. Who do I contact about receiving an application to take the test?

Go to each licensing board website to get more information. All board websites may be accessed by clicking on the links of interest tab on this website

5. How do find out if there are any updates since I've taken the seminar?

Select "UPDATES LOGIN" and fill in the login and password. If you do not have that information or if it has expired, please contact us toll free at 1-888-277-4045 to receive the login and password information.

6. What is the difference between an Unlimited and Limited license in South Carolina?

The Unlimited license qualifies you for all five limitation groups, and the Limited license only qualifies you for Groups I, II, and III. (SEE CHAPTER 11, LICENSE REQUIREMENTS, IN THE SC BUSINESS MANAGEMENT & LAW FOR COMMERCIAL CONTRACTORS BOOK)
